Leslie Pettitt Hardy (1902-1992) was born in Summit County, Ohio. He attended Kent State College between 1922 and 1928, with periods off during which he worked as a teacher and coach at area schools. While at Kent, Hardy was active in athletics, lettering in basketball, track, and baseball. He served on the staff of both The Kentonian and The Kent Stater and was a Kappa Mu Kappa fraternity member. Hardy also served as president of his graduating class. The 20th Commemoration of the Kent State shootings, held in 1990, remains one of the largest-attended of all the annual gatherings.
